The Campaign for Greener Healthcare was established in 2008 out of concern for the future of the health sector and of people’s health. We know that climate change is the biggest threat to health this century. But what we also know is that we have a window of opportunity to do something about it if we act now and start making sustainable changes to healthcare practices and to our own lives. And if we make these changes, we could see ourselves living healthier lives in the future and enjoying ‘greener’ healthcare that is fit to care for us in the future.
We have seen our work fall mainly into three areas: engagement, knowledge sharing and transformation.
We have been incredibly lucky to work with inspiring partners on these projects and have built up a committed group of contacts across the UK. We also have a wealth of global connections and strong European and US partners, who we hope will take forward some of the ideas and programmes we have initiated.
With everyone shouting their green credentials, healthcare has a great opportunity to be on the crest of this wave, both in terms of the important synergy with the core business of keeping people healthy and in terms of the great potential for health organisations to take a leading role in making the future sustainable for all.
