World Kidney Day

World Kidney Day (WKD) is a global health awareness campaign focusing on the importance of our kidneys and reducing the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated health problems worldwide. The campaign is celebrated every year on the second Thursday of March in more than 100 countries on 6 continents.

Chronic kidney disease is now being diagnosed in many more people – it is common, harmful and treatable. We currently have in the region of 3.7% of the adult population on the primary care CKD registers but expect the true prevalence to be somewhere in the region of 8.5%.

 It is expected that only 40% of the probable numbers are picked up by the QOF. This tool, from NHS Choices, is a great way to raise awareness and get people thinking:
