Green Ward Competition Kicks Off at University Hospital Southampton

Wednesday, 31 May, 2017

And they’re off! Another Green Ward Competition started on Thursday the 25th of May with three of the six teams attending workshops at University Hospital Southampton. The remaining 3 teams will join workshops in the coming week, so it's not too late for new teams to join in, if they want a chance to win the £500 prize money.

On what was one of the hottest days of the year so far, teams from the Urology Day Unit, Therapy Services and Acute Medical Unit joined individual workshops run by CSH. The teams gained an insight into sustainable healthcare and designed sustainability projects related to their work on the wards. Among the participants were nurses, clinical pharmacists, healthcare assistance, occupational therapists and physiotherapists.

Centre for Sustainable Healthcare is running the Green Ward Competition at University Hospital Southampton as part of its behaviour change programme that is run in-house with the support of Low Carbon Europe.

The Green Ward Competition at UHS will feature some innovative and exciting projects this year. We won’t give too much away for now, but all the projects involve changes that are bound to save staff time, enhance patient experience and reduce the carbon footprint of the hospital.
