Sustainable Dentistry: How-to Guide for Dental Practices

“Dentistry as a profession should integrate sustainable development goals into daily practice and support a shift to a green economy in the pursuit of healthy lives and well-being for all through all stages of life.” *

But what does this mean in practice, and how should dental teams go about it?

This Guide has been developed as a practical resource for dental teams wishing take action to make their practice more sustainable. Teams can download the document in full, or can pick and mix from the individual “How to” mini-guides within each of the following six sections:

  1. Travel
  2. Equipment and supplies
  3. Energy
  4. Waste
  5. Biodiversity and green space
  6. Measuring and embedding sustainability
  7. Webinars

The Guide accompanies and references a series of more academic articles which will be published in the British Dental Journal in 2019, and is authored by Sara Harford, Darshini Ramasubbu, Brett Duane and Frances Mortimer on behalf of the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare (2018). Development of the guide was funded by Health Education England.
