The Centre for Sustainable Healthcare (CSH) has been leading efforts to incorporate the values of environmental sustainability into the health sector since its establishment in 2008. Our work is underpinned by CSH’s Principles of Sustainable Clinical Practice: prevention; patient empowerment; lean care systems; low carbon alternatives.

Our Clinical Transformation Programme mainstreams environmental sustainability within clinical areas so that it is integral to the planning of health systems and the practice of healthcare professionals and provides training in sustainable healthcare and planetary health for staff in educational institutions, professional bodies and healthcare organisations. The Green Space for Health Programme works to realise the value of the NHS green estate for physical and mental health, supporting NHS sites to develop their green space for the benefit of patients, staff and communities, while improving biodiversity and combatting climate change. These programmes are supported through the work of our Core team.
About the role
Join the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare (CSH) as the Green Team Delivery Lead and be a key player in our mission to integrate sustainability into healthcare systems. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with NHS Trusts and healthcare providers to manage and deliver our flagship Green Team Competition, a clinical engagement programme aimed at driving sustainability through innovative projects. By mentoring teams, organising workshops, and evaluating the competition’s impact, you’ll directly contribute to fostering a culture of sustainability within healthcare organisations. Your expertise in clinical practice and leadership will help healthcare teams plan and implement sustainability projects that not only save resources but also improve long-term outcomes.
As the Green Team Delivery Lead, you will play a critical role in shaping CSH’s Clinical Transformation Programme, working closely with various teams and key individuals, including our Sustainability in Quality Improvement (SusQI) Programme Lead and Sustainability Analyst.
In this fixed-term, one-year position, you will gain the flexibility of remote work with occasional travel to meetings in Oxford, London, and other UK locations. Key Responsibilities:
- Developing strong working relationships with NHS Trusts and other partner organisations
- Making inter-departmental links within the organisation, including with the quality improvement team
- Recruiting teams from within partner healthcare organisations
- Running online and face-to-face workshops with small groups of healthcare staff
- Mentoring teams to plan, implement and measure outcomes of SusQI projects during the competition
- Writing impact reports, containing case studies using SusQI framework
- Organising and hosting high impact Showcase events
- Evaluating the effectiveness of the Green Team Competition programme
- Taking opportunities to write journal articles or prepare posters for presentation at academic conferences
- Using cases from the Green Team Competition to contribute to SusQI training materials
- Where the opportunity arises, working as part of a wider team to integrate SusQI into the working of the host organisation
- Teach large groups on CSH course workshops
- Fund-raising is a collective effort at CSH. All roles have a responsibility for raising revenue through building relationships with funders, donors and partners, contributing to our sales pipeline and/or funding application processes.
About you
Essential Qualifications and Skills
- Experience working in the UK National Health Service as a health professional
- Knowledge and experience of quality improvement in healthcare
- Familiarity with issues surrounding sustainability, climate change and health
- Commitment to environmental sustainability
- Experience of managing successful projects or programmes, running projects to time and responding flexibly to changing circumstances
- Ability to organise and manage own work
- Contribute to strategic sustainability efforts
- Good at building relationships with external people (from diverse teams, including clinicians, managers, QI, sustainability, etc)
- Strong skills in small group facilitation in meetings/workshops (online and in person)
- Creative ways of creating a good thinking space
- Adaptable, flexible and able to work independently as well as part of a team
- Small group facilitation skills with creative ways of creating a good thinking space
- Strong written communication skills. Able to present ideas, arguments and information clearly and in an engaging manner in written format (in English)
- Basic data analysis
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel
Desirable Skills and Attributes
- Knowledge of SusQI methodology
- Able to effectively motivate and inspire others and take them on a journey of change / Empathy and active listening for understanding the needs of diverse teams.
- Experience of delivering presentations (face to face and virtual) to a range of audiences
- Knowledge of and experience implementing behaviour change theory and practice
- Use of online collaboration platforms including Miro, MS Teams, Google drive/docs
- Use of Canva to create visual tools for education and comms
- Facility with social media
- Video-editing and filming
- Use of CSH Sustainable Healthcare Networks

Location
This is a predominantly home-based role. The role will require some travel within the UK for visits, meetings, and conferences. We encourage the use of sustainable travel wherever feasible. Staff are expected to attend in-person office meeting days in Oxford once a month. Reasonable travel costs for attending these meetings are reimbursed.
