Courses in Sustainable Healthcare for North America

Healthcare systems consume large quantities of materials, energy, chemicals, water, and they generate vast amounts of waste. If the United States healthcare sector were a country, it would rank thirteenth in the world for greenhouse gas emissions, ahead of the entire United Kingdom.

A more efficient and sustainable health system would not use resources in a way that adversely affects the health of the population or prevent tomorrow's health professionals from providing care. 

In the past year, we have seen an increase in health professionals from North America joining our short courses on sustainability, health and healthcare. The courses have been endorsed by the Yale Program on Health Care Environmental Sustainability, which is committed to enhancing the environmental performance of health care through research, policy, advocacy, and education.

Course Format

By combining core concepts and case studies, followed by live online workshops with expert advice, our courses prepare health professionals, educators, and managers to implement sustainability projects in the workplace, conduct research, and contribute to developing and delivering sustainability plans and Green Plans

Self-study:  A 6-hour interactive online package with case studies which opens 3 weeks before your booked course. After working through the materials you are invited to identify a sustainability project you would like to undertake in your setting (optional). You will have access to the self study materials for 12 weeks after the workshop.  

Workshop: A 4-hour small group online workshop facilitated by national experts to answer questions and help you design and implement a sustainability project.  

Mentoring: The two-hour sustainable healthcare 'cafés' offer a friendly and informal setting in which to build networks and receive/offer advice from experts and peers on sustainability projects.
