We are pleased to announce that a Green Team Competition project, run with Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT) in 2022, has won the Medipex Award 2025. It was recognised in the category of Process and Systems Innovations.
The project, led by Dr Lynn Riddell, focused on improving how stable HIV-positive patients are monitored. At present, all stable HIV patients in the UK are required to attend NHS services for blood tests and monitoring every six months. However, the team redefined the meaning of “stable”. They introduced a new monitoring pathway, which received 94% approval from patient feedback.
As a result, the project has delivered clear social, environmental, and financial benefits. Over two years of rolling out the new pathway, no harms have been reported. In fact, patients have shared that it has improved their financial and social wellbeing.
Importantly, this project shows real potential to influence national HIV monitoring guidelines. It is a strong example of sustainable healthcare in practice.
