Planetary Healthcare Journal Club

The Centre for Sustainable Healthcare, University of Toronto for Sustainable Health Systems and the Yale Program on Healthcare Environmental Sustainability have collaborated to offer health professionals and students the Planetary Healthcare Journal Club.

What is it?

The journal club is a student-led initiative in which students will discover, study, and present primary research papers on sustainability in healthcare under the supervision of academics and healthcare practitioners with experience in the topic. While research articles on sustainability in healthcare are prioritised, publications focusing on the health implications of climate change and environmental/health justice may also be chosen. The sessions will serve as a forum for cross-disciplinary dialogue between clinical professionals, scientists, administrators, environmental engineers, and policy experts, and we hope that they will facilitate long-term collaborations between universities and organisations.

How to join

  • When/Where: Meetings will be held via Zoom on the third Wednesday of each month from 12-1PM EST/5-6PM BST, with a break in July, August, and December for summer and winter vacations.
  • Presentiations: At each session, a student or a team of 2-3 student volunteers will deliver an article. Meetings will include a 30-minute presentation on the paper, followed by 30 minutes of questions and discussion. On a rotational basis, students will be recruited from each of the three universities.
  • Content: Papers will be posted at least one week before each meeting to enable attendees time to read them. To assist students with selection, an online repository of prospective papers will be maintained.
