Andy Cassels-Brown has been an NHS Consultant in Ophthalmology since 1995 with a special interest in International Public Health programme development. Having spent a year in Nigeria on W.H.O. River Blindness (Onchocerciasis) research he sat the MSc in Community Eye Health, now hosted by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Since 2001 he worked with Leeds Primary Care Trust Public Health Directorate and more recently Leeds Clinical Commissioning Groups. In recent years, he has worked with the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare, Oxford, on several programmes including; a 'Triple Bottom Line' evaluation of Community Ophthalmology services; the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Sustainability Working Group; the RCOphth "Way Forward" programme; and more recently, with Professor Cassie Thiel, New York University, and CSH funded by Standard Chartered Banks "Seeing is Believing" Innovation Programme to develop a global web tool/app to improve cataract surgical productivity, and reduce costs and carbon footprint. Andy has been Co-Chair of the RCOphth Sustainability Working Group and is now Secretary to the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness Environmental Sustainability Working Group and has been working closely with CSH on their role in healthcare globally.
