The Centre For Sustainable Healthcare Supports The Our People, Our Planet Virtual Conference

The climate crisis has a direct, immediate health impact on all communities, and making healthcare more sustainable and bringing healthcare organisations and green initiatives together to reduce carbon and help the NHS reach its Net Zero target is something we should all be aiming for. That is why the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare is proud to support Our People Our Planet, a ground-breaking and free virtual event featuring over 25 NHS organisations and partners that are all on a critical mission to achieve carbon net zero emissions. Because the climate emergency is a health emergency: drivers of climate change are drivers of ill health.

NHS colleagues have been saving lives for 75 years, now they’re saving the planet as well. The sheer size and scale of our healthcare system means there are countless opportunities for more environmentally sustainable ways of working, and that goes far beyond simple recycling initiatives in estates. From improving clinical best practice with more sustainable initiatives to increasing patient outcomes with green spaces and more, there have been many magnificent achievements already. Now it is time to make sure that sustainability is a natural part of all healthcare at all levels. 

Colleagues far and wide are leading inventive quality improvement projects and working in innovative new ways. Let’s learn from each other and spread what works – on a national scale.

Our People Our Planet is a ground-breaking, virtual event featuring over 25 NHS organisations and partners who are breaking silos and the silence to shout about the improvement work they are doing to go green; the challenges, the positive impact they are having and everything they are learning. Sessions include work across the spectrum of primary, secondary and tertiary care, spanning organisations across Great Britain.
