We were delighted to see our former Nephrology Fellow and now Associate, Dr Marta Arias Guillén, representing the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare at Health Tech Forward 2025 held in Barcelona as part of Europe’s leading health tech innovation and investment event.
With more than 1,000 attendees and over 150 speakers from 40+ countries, HTF 2025 brought together global leaders to discuss the environmental footprint of healthcare and the role of innovation in driving sustainable change.

In her session “Climate Change and Healthcare – Is the Sector Taking a Bigger Toll Than We Thought?”, Marta showcased CSH’s pioneering work in Green Nephrology and sustainable kidney care, including collaborative research, practical optimisation efforts in water treatment and dialysis facilities, and the potential of digital tools and telemedicine to reduce resource use and unnecessary travel.
Her contribution highlighted both the environmental challenges of kidney care and the opportunities for low-carbon, high-quality clinical models.
We are incredibly grateful and proud of Marta’s continued leadership in this field and grateful for her thoughtful reflections on the event. Barcelona, and Catalonia more widely, are rapidly becoming hubs for sustainability in healthcare, and it was inspiring to see our work represented on such an international stage.
