Green Transplant Taskforce launched: open call for industry partners

The Centre for Sustainable Healthcare (CSH) is launching the Green Transplant Taskforce, a new UK-wide initiative designed to place sustainability and equity at the heart of transplant care.

Why focusing on transplant services?

Transplant services are lifesaving, but they are also among the most resource-intensive areas of healthcare. As the NHS works towards its net zero commitment, there is an urgent need for coordinated, system-wide action that reduces environmental impact while continuing to deliver excellent outcomes for patients. The Green Transplant Taskforce has been created to meet this challenge, supporting the transplant community to move from isolated sustainability efforts to collective, meaningful change.

What is this new Taskforce?

Hosted by CSH, the Taskforce will bring together clinicians, patients, system partners and industry to develop a shared vision and strategy for sustainable transplant care, aligned with national transplant strategies and the NHS long-term plan. Initial work will focus on defining collective ambitions, establishing robust governance and agreeing a collaborative funding model to enable delivery of a programme of practical, evidence-based projects.

CSH will lead the Taskforce in partnership with NHS Blood and Transplant, the British Transplantation Society, patient representatives and sustainability experts, ensuring strong clinical leadership, lived experience input and transparent, ethical governance throughout.

What can you do?

An open call is now underway for industry partners to join the Green Transplant Taskforce as sponsors and collaborators. Partners will play an active role in shaping the direction of the Taskforce, contributing expertise, supporting innovation and helping to set the benchmark for environmentally responsible transplant services across the UK.

Full details of the Green Transplant Taskforce, including its mission, governance, initial objectives, sponsorship model and timeline, are set out in the accompanying document below.

Engagement with prospective partners will take place from January to February 2026, with Taskforce meetings beginning in April 2026.
