Launch of the SusQI Academy and Beacon Site Recognition
Integrating sustainability into quality improvement (SusQI) is a practical way to train healthcare professionals to respond to social and environmental challenges while also improving patient care. Through our SusQI Education Project, fourteen Beacon Sites in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland were trained to lead on SusQI teaching in their institution and to embed sustainability into Quality Improvement education. Disciplines included undergraduate and postgraduate medical, nursing, dentistry, and allied health professionals.
Building on this success, we have launched SusQI Beacon Site Recognition, which recognises organisations and institutions that have integrated, or are aspiring to integrate sustainability into their quality improvement education. We have also developed the SusQI Academy, a support package to help organisations and institutions integrate SusQI and in receiving Beacon Site Recognition.
SusQI Beacon Site Recognition
Beacon Site Accreditation is awarded by CSH to institutions or organisations that have integrated sustainability into the education and training of learners/staff in Quality Improvement. Benefits include:
- Being recognised as a leader in the empowerment of staff, and/or students, to design and implement sustainable quality improvement and transformation
- Be identified as a Beacon Site on the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare’s online map (susqi.org)
- Use the Beacon Site logo for internal and external communications and educational/training materials
- Keep up-to-date with news from other Beacon Sites via the quarterly e-newsletter
- Access a discount for staff on attendance at anannual SusQI Showcase Event, with the opportunity to present sustainability in QI work and exchange ideas with other Beacon Sites
The SusQI Academy
The SusQI Academy, developed and run by the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare, is a programme of support designed to help both health-education and health-provider institutions, to embed SusQI into their QI teaching and QI practice. The programme can be tailored to the needs of an institution or an individual, and aims to help you to achieve the following:
- Integrate SusQI into your curricula, teaching programmes and QI methodology
- Develop SusQI aligned learning objectives, teaching resources, and QI projects
- Develop the confidence of your staff to teach and use the SusQI framework
- Apply SusQI principles to strategy and policy development
- Achieve the criteria for CSH Beacon Site Accreditation
