This annual event is designed to support healthcare professionals, students, QI educators, clinical and academic leads, and organisational leaders to successfully implement SusQI into their practice, teaching, or wider systems. It will showcase a range of real-world examples of SusQI in action across different contexts.

What is SusQI?

Sustainability in Quality Improvement (SusQI) is a framework that brings a holistic approach to healthcare improvement by considering environmental, social, and financial impacts, often referred to as the triple bottom line. It aims to improve patient outcomes while reducing carbon emissions and maximising value for health systems.

SusQI supports healthcare professionals to incorporate sustainability into existing QI methods. Projects often focus on one or more of the four Centre for Sustainable Healthcare principles of sustainable healthcare:

• Prevention
• Patient empowerment and self-care
• Lean clinical pathways
• Low-carbon alternatives

Over the past three years, many NHS trusts have successfully implemented SusQI projects, several of which have earned national recognition and awards.

What to Expect at the SusQI Showcase 2025

The 2025 programme will feature a range of local, national and international projects demonstrating how SusQI is being applied in different settings. Attendees will gain practical insights, learn from challenges and successes, and take away ideas to apply in their own practice.
