Welcoming St George’s, Epsom and St Helier to the SusQI Academy
This summer we are delighted to welcome colleagues from St George’s, Epsom and St Helier Hospital Group (GESH) to our community of SusQI Academy members and SusQI Beacon Sites. They will be working towards upskilling key members of the Sustainability, ContinuousImprovement and clinical teams, embedding the principles of sustainable healthcare and sustainable value into improvement work and programmes. This work will align priorities of improving patient care, driving efficiencies and cost savings and delivering key elements of their refreshed Green Plan.
Why integrating sustainability into improvement matters
Embedding sustainability into improvement practice aligns existing educational and improvement programmes, engages all healthcare staff avoiding additional demand, and strengthens priorities such as:
- Delivering green plans and net zero targets, including the drive towards clinical transformation, focusing on prevention, patient empowerment, and lean service delivery
- Delivering significant cost and efficiency savings and reducing waste
- Health inequalities, by promoting the use of practical tools that guide improvement teams to target the social determinants of health and measure the social impact of all improvement.
- Staff wellbeing, time saved being utilised for higher value care delivery for patients
What is the SusQI Academy
The Academy programme supports both health-education and health-provider institutions, is tailored based on organisational need, and aims to achieve the following:
- Easily integrate the core concepts of sustainable healthcare into existing improvement methodology
- Adapt existing tools and templates to capture and measure the sustainability impact of any improvement initiative, inc. carbon footprinting and social impact
- Measure the environmental, social and financial impact of current or planned improvement initiatives
- Build connections and strategic links between sustainability, finance, clinical and improvement teams
- Build organisational capacity and capability to deliver sustainable clinical transformation
- Increase motivation for engagement in QI
