The KitNewCare project, where the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare (CSH) plays a leading role, has been highlighted in the World Health Organization’s COP29 Special Report on Climate Change and Health, prepared for this year’s climate summit. The report emphasises the pressing need for sustainable healthcare solutions to combat climate impacts and showcases global initiatives making meaningful strides in reducing the environmental burden of health systems.
In Chapter 3 of the report, titled “Build Future-Proofed Health Systems”, KitNewCare is highlighted in the “Further Reading” section alongside related initiatives like CARING NATURE and NetZeroAICT. As a pioneering EU co-funded project, KitNewCare is recognised for its innovative work in reducing the environmental impact of kidney healthcare. This mention emphasises the project’s contribution to integrating sustainability into clinical care and advancing the global push for greener, more resilient healthcare systems.
CSH has played a pivotal role in KitNewCare by providing expertise in SusQI (Sustainable Quality Improvement), facilitating collaboration among diverse healthcare organisations, and supporting the project’s mission to align health systems with climate goals.
This recognition in the WHO COP29 report underscores KitNewCare’s global relevance and its contribution to building resilient, sustainable health systems.
