We're hiring! Nature Recovery Ranger at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre

  • Salary: £30,000 pa (plus contributory pension)

We are looking for an inspiring Nature Recovery Ranger to improve the quality of green spaces in and around Mount Vernon Cancer Centre and optimise the role green space plays in patient care, staff wellbeing and community engagement.

In 2021, we began embedding Nature Recovery Rangers to develop programmes of green space activities and community engagement at specific NHS sites. This position builds on work carried out at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, with funding provided by East and North Herts Hospital Charity.

As a Nature Recovery Ranger, you will work with the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, acting as an advocate for nature and the benefits it offers for physical and mental wellbeing. You will identify barriers to green space use and influence behavioural change through a programme of nature related projects and knowledge sharing.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working with CSH, NHS and partners to develop and maintain a programme of work, with the overall aim of improving green spaces and optimising their role in the healthcare setting.
  • Promoting engagement in the programme and facilitating participation from different groups including patients, healthcare staff and local residents.
  • Leading on practical projects and events, to implement green space enhancements and improve accessibility. Including operationalising health and safety arrangements, managing tools and resources.
  • Building strong relationships with estates and facilities teams, and encouraging the long term management of the NHS estate as biodiverse and accessible green space.
  • Facilitating the monitoring and evaluation of the programme. Sharing learning and encouraging best practise amongst stakeholders.
  • Acting at all times in accordance with your responsibility to safeguard the health and wellbeing of children and vulnerable adults.
  • Being willing to undergo DBS checking.
