The Centre for Sustainable Healthcare (CSH) is a charity inspiring, empowering and mobilising people to transform healthcare for a sustainable future. CSH is supporting the NHS to become leaner and greener with projects that benefit the environment and people’s wellbeing.
“The Centre for Sustainable Healthcare is a unique and pioneering organisation, doing work that's essential to help us move towards a healthier society and healthier health services!”
FY1 doctor and CSH supporter
CSH has already influenced government policy, contributed to curriculum change in UK medical schools, won awards for the NHS Forest project and been cited in the influential Marmot Review for the Clinical Transformation Programme.
Funding for our core costs is entirely provided by donations and project-focused support.
The NHS Forest Project enables health staff, patients and local people to access green spaces at NHS sites. Since 2009 the NHS Forest has planted 10,000 trees at more than 30 sites.
A regular donation of £8 per month for 12 months plus Gift Aid pays for a morning at an NHS site involving local schoolchildren and volunteers in planting trees.
The Clinical Transformation Programme works with clinical specialties to create networks of green champions sharing ideas to save resources, cut carbon emissions and pioneer better healthcare. CSH started this work in kidney care and have 85% of NHS kidney units signed up to our renal network. We want to spread this model to other specialties.
A regular donation of £18 per month for 12 months plus Gift Aid will support a Green Network for a month.
