New Green Ward Competition at Barts

Tuesday, 22 January, 2019

Lindsey Jarrett, Sustainability Programme Coordinator at Barts Health NHS Trust, has commissioned CSH to give clinical teams the opportunity to enter the Green Ward competition with the aim of contributing to sustainable clinical practice in the Trust.

After a good response to a call for applications, six clinical teams have been selected to participate in workshops run by the CSH Green Ward team, Dr Olivia Bush and Ben Whittaker, to examine their workplace culture and systems and run projects to improve the sustainability, quality and efficiency of the care that they deliver. Our facilitators will support the clinical teams in devising projects that change daily work practices and reduce the carbon footprint; increase the health & wellbeing of patients, staff & the community and make cost savings (the ‘triple bottom line’ ).  Running the competition in a Trust has the added benefit of building a community of clinical staff who are empowered, enthused and equipped to further improve their services in the future, guided by the concepts of the triple bottom line and sustainable healthcare.  We look forward to working with the teams at Whipps Cross, Mile End and the Royal London hospitals and to partnering with them in carrying out transformative work in their departments.
