Nursing Insights Project

Nursing and Midwifery Insights Survey: Identifying carbon reducing actions and behaviours for clinical nurses and midwives

This project examines the perspectives of nurses and midwives on environmental sustainability in healthcare, a crucial factor in achieving the NHS's NetZero 2040 target. It identifies key challenges and strategies to enhance sustainable healthcare practices and highlights the important role healthcare workers play in this transformation.

What the Project Is and Why It Is Important:

The project focuses on understanding and addressing the environmental impact of healthcare from the perspective of frontline staff. It's important because nurses and midwives, the largest workforce in healthcare, can drive change through sustainable practices, contributing to a healthier planet and more efficient healthcare delivery.

CSH's Role in the Project:

The Centre for Sustainable Healthcare (CSH) leads the project, coordinating research, collecting perspectives, and providing expertise on integrating sustainability into healthcare. CSH works to develop actionable recommendations, education, and frameworks that empower nurses and midwives to adopt sustainable practices in their daily work.

The Impact of the Project:

The project aims to significantly reduce the healthcare sector's carbon footprint by promoting sustainable practices. By involving nurses and midwives, it fosters systemic change, enhances patient care, and contributes to long-term environmental and healthcare resilience, helping the NHS meet its NetZero targets by 2040.
