Sustainability and health organisations
There are many sustainability organisations who are now working with the health sector. There are also many in the health system who are now taking sustainability seriously. We work with many of these and look forward to partnering with more.
The following organisations are working specifically at the interface of health and sustainability:
Centre for Sustainable Healthcare - A charity supporting the NHS and other health systems to reach net zero carbon and wider sustainability through transformation of clinical specialties and green space programmes.
Green Impact – A toolkit for GP practices to improve their sustainability and environmental impact; set up by the Royal College of GPs and the National Union of Students.
Greener NHS – A unit within NHS England and Improvement set up to embed sustainability in the health and care system.
Greener Practice – Resources and ideas from GPs and medical students to engage the primary care community towards Greener Practice: actions that improve the health of both people and planet.
Health Care Without Harm Europe - An NGO that represents a large coalition of European health institutions that focus on transforming the sector's environmental footprint, become a community anchor for sustainability, and a leader in the global movement for environmental health and justice.
Health Declares Climate and Ecological Emergency - A grassroots, voluntary group of health professionals and organisations informing and mobilising health workers to act and advocate on protecting planetary and human health.
Healthy Planet UK – A group of students and young people from across the UK who raise awareness and advocate on environmental change and health.
Medact – A network for health workers to challenge the social, political and economic conditions which damage health and deepen health inequalities.
Sustainable Healthcare Coalition - A healthcare sector led group which looks for the greatest opportunities to inspire sustainable practices in healthcare through the collaboration of its members across private and public sectors.
UK Health Alliance on Climate Change (UKHACC) - An alliance of UK health organisations advocating for climate action to protect and promote public health.
Center for Sustainable Health Systems (Canada) - A research and innovation lab, training shop and a network of allies and partners providing ground for a transition to sustainable health and social care.
Doctors for XR – A group of medical doctors and other health professionals. Affiliated with the non-violent campaign group Extinction Rebellion.
Global Climate and Health Alliance - Made up of health and development organisations from around the world, working to tackle climate change and to protect and promote public health.
Health and Environment Alliance - a not-for-profit organisation addressing how the natural and built environments affect health in the European Union (EU).
Health Care Without Harm - an international nongovernmental organization working to transform health care to reduce its environmental footprint, become a community anchor for sustainability, and a leader in the global movement for environmental health and justice.
Nordic Centre for Sustainable Healthcare - a cross-sectoral arena and network involving stakeholders, organizations, projects and expertise in the area of sustainable healthcare, all sharing the goal to create a more sustainable healthcare sector.
Planetary Health Alliance - A consortium of over 200 universities, non-governmental organizations, research institutes, and government entities from around the world committed to understanding and addressing global environmental change and its health impacts.
