Our work has been developed by both funded staff and exceptionally committed volunteers, interns and elective students. Below are some of the ways that individuals, teams, and organisations can contribute to CSH's mission.

Engage with our programmes

Individuals can access our open-access resources, such as the Sustainability in Quality Improvement step-by-step guide, the Green Walking in Mental Health Recovery guide, and specialty project resources developed by our sustainability fellows and scholars. On the elfh platform, NHS England Healthcare staff are encouraged to complete the free e-learning Environmentally Sustainable Healthcare programme.

All are welcome to learn about "hot topics" in sustainable healthcare by viewing our series of Connecting Q Locally webinars and/or by enrolling in our three-part courses that will assist you in preparing and implementing workplace sustainability projects. In our resource library, you can also find sustainable healthcare resources and case studies.

Healthcare organisations and educational institutions can access our SusQI resources, and become a member of the SusQI Academy, which provides CPD training and support to QI Leads for embeddding sustainability into QI education and practice. We also offer block booking course discounts which enables your organisation to equip staff with the motivation, skills, and resources necessary to develop low-carbon healthcare projects that align with your Green/Sustainability Plan. The Green Ward Competition can be run for NHS Trusts and Boards to help teams reduce carbon, save money, and improve patient care and staff experience. Through full-time Fellow and part-time Scholar roles we can also support NHS and medical specialty organisations to train clinicians to move Green Plans forward strategically.

Donate

Our work is funded through donations and project-specific funding. We welcome one-time, recurring, and legacy gifts, each of which will help our charity to support sustainable transformations to the UK health system, and influence others internationally, benefiting both people and the environment.

Volunteer or complete an elective student placement

Volunteering and student elective placements are two exciting ways for individuals to contribute to and develop our work. Volunteers have joined from around the world, some for a few months and others for several years. Below are some of the unique opportunities that you could engage with as a volunteer:

  • Collaborate with one of our project leads to maximize the impact of one of our programmes
  • Join one of our sustainable specialty fellows to inspire leadership and produce practical changes within the healthcare system
  • Manage one of our sustainability networks, identifying and sharing cutting-edge research and events in sustainable healthcare

Students and recent graduates are invited to learn about sustainability and healthcare as elective students.  These experiences are full-time for a period of 4-8 weeks, which allows for intensive and focused work enhancing the impact of our sustainability programmes or the opportunity to engage on multiple programmes.
