We're hiring! Woodland Creation and Tree Planting Project Manager
We are looking to expand our team and deliver more tree planting and woodland creation on NHS sites. The Woodland Creation and Tree Planting Project Manager will work as part of a team alongside the Woodland Creation and Tree Planting Technical Officer, and supported by the Communications and Marketing, and Project and Evidence Leads for Trees and Woodlands.
The postholder will oversee projects with ambitious targets to create new areas of woodland and increase tree planting on healthcare sites throughout England. They will work strategically to identify key partners and build strong relationships with stakeholders, advocating tree planting as a mechanism for enhancing the healthcare benefits of the NHS green estate. They will ensure cohesion across all elements of the project, maintain budgetary control, monitor deliverables and report on outcomes.
- Home-based with monthly travel to Oxford and travel to site meetings.
- Full time (37.5 hours per week)
- Fixed term until March 2025
- Salary: £32,000- £34,500 per annum (plus contributory pension)

About the role
The role will involve a range of activities designed to expand the NHS Forest and develop it as a vibrant network for good practice. This includes approaching and liaising with health trusts and tree suppliers to facilitate tree planting and related green space work; monitoring and reporting on tree sponsorship and tree planting to track the expansion of the NHS Forest; developing our tree procurement strategy; gathering information about NHS trusts’ woodland and green space activities, needs and interests; and producing inspiring case studies and other supporting advice and information to help trusts in developing the potential of their woodlands and other green spaces.
Responsibilities will include:
- Managing the delivery of the Green Space for Health Team’s new woodland creation and tree planting project, co-ordinating with the team to ensure contractual targets are achieved.
- Identifying efficiencies and facilitating cohesion across all projects relating to trees and woodlands within the team.
- Maintaining effective financial controls and records for projects.
- Managing and developing key strategic relationships with project partners and funders, reporting on project progress.
- Building relationships with new stakeholders, including suppliers and NHS teams.
- Ensuring appropriate procedures are in place, including tree agreements, permissions and health and safety protocols.
- Evaluating processes and services, refining them to ensure user needs are met.
- Sharing successes and lessons learned with wider networks.
- Representing the CSH at conferences and events, as required.
- Contributing to the Green Space for Health team activities and wider work across CSH as required.
